Over the past 17 years, research in the blockchain field has advanced rapidly through extensive practical applications grounded in academic technology. As a result, blockchain has been widely adopted across various industries and has become a vital tool for risk mitigation. Domestic researchers in this field are actively competing on the international stage, acquiring and developing cutting-edge technologies.

Blockchain is playing a crucial role in fostering new domestic industries through dynamic exchanges and collaborations. Currently, blockchain technology is being studied worldwide as part of digital convergence, emerging from creative integration with advanced digital technologies. In Korea, while blockchain technology alone is approaching world-class standards in both quantity and quality, the combined fields of blockchain and digital convergence technology still lack a strong foundation for sharing academic and practical knowledge among experts.

From 2020 to 2024, the Blockchain Forum/Digital Convergence Industry Association has organized 48 seminars aimed at innovating the digital new economy ecosystem. These seminars addressed legislative proposals, policy agenda discovery, and industry applications of blockchain through working groups. Despite these efforts, domestic research activity and academic communication in blockchain and digital convergence remain limited compared to the international community.

In response to this gap, efforts have been made to enhance research quality and foster active communication among domestic experts in blockchain and digital convergence technologies. The goal is to establish a solid foundation for professional academic activities and to build an industrial ecosystem capable of reaching the advanced levels seen in leading countries. To support these objectives, the Digital Convergence Industry Association, an organization composed of domestic blockchain and digital convergence researchers, has been established.
